Dear Listener,
Considering that I'm married to Cedar Cove's private investigator, you might think I enjoy mysteries. But I don't - especially when they involve us! Roy and I have been receiving anonymous postcards and messages asking if we "regret the past". We don't know what they mean.
On a more positive note, we're both delighted that our daughter, Linette, has moved to Cedar Cove to work at the new medical clinic. A while ago I attended the humane society's "Dog and Bachelor Auction", where I bought her a date with Cal Washburn, who works at Cliff Harding's horse farm. Unfortunately, Linette is less enthusiastic about this date than I am.
Speaking of Cliff, the romance between him and Grace Sherman is back on. But that's only one of the many interesting stories here in Cedar Cove. So why don't you drop by for a coffee at my husband's office on Main Street or our house on Harbor and I'll tell you everything that's new!

50 Harbor Street Cedar Cove Book 5 (Audible Audio Edition) Debbie Macomber Sandra Burr Brilliance Audio Books Reviews
I have just finished the 5th book in the Cedar Cove series.
As always it has been a joy visiting old friends and being introduced to new ones. In this book we are particularly following Corrie and Roy Mc Affee, the recidents of 50 Harbor Street. The couple has been receiving curious postcards over a period of time, and when the mystery is finally solved, it will mean a lot more to Corrie and Roy than they would ever have envisioned. Their story is a perfect example that although Cedar Cove is a peaceful little town, this doesn't mean life cannot be dramatic enough.
In this book we are also meeting single Linette, Gloria and Allison, and following Rachel and Linette further in search of true love.
When charming David, son of Charlotte's husband Ben, suddenly shows up in Cedar Cove, his step sister Olivia is not fooled. There is obviously more to this guy than his elegance and good looks.
Maryellen and Kelly are struggling with second pregnancies which are not easy for any of them. Maryellen has to quit her job and stay in bed until the birth, while Kelly is struggling with morning sickness. They desperatly want more children and will do anything to carry their babies to term.
Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove books are light, relaxing and entertaining reading about real life's ups and downs, problems and obstacles.
However, in this 5th book in the series I felt that maybe some pieces in the puzzles DID fall a bit too easy into place. There were a couple of situations when the solution was easy to guess very early in the book. I would hope that Book 6 will present some more unexpected twists and turns. The predictibilities in this one were the reason I did not give the book a five.
But all in all, with the Cedar Cove series Debbie Macomber has created some wonderful reading, presenting life in small town America in a most charming manner. It's impossible not to become addicted to these warm and fullfilling books with the beautiful jackets!
I really enjoy following the same cast of characters from one book to another, unfortunately a lot of repetition of background information is necessary to allow each book to be readable even if one is not reading the entire series.
The Cedar Cove books are charming and easy to read. I devoured one right after another and just might have over-dosed on them.
So this was the first one in this series I have read. Just to be honest, I did finish it. But it is sooooo predictable and so very contrived. Girl loves boy, girl gets boy. Girl loses boy. But wait! I have to read the next book to find out what happens. Characters were interesting, I'll give it that much. Also, I didn't like how the continuity was set up; or not. So many names and people. Four chapters later, we read about the same people.
After having read multiple Macomber books I found this one to be a little disappointing. So many new characters being introduced made it difficult to follow who was who and why they were necessary to the story. And the ending left the reader hanging.
I find Macomber's books hard to read because she doesn't have a major person or couple. In this novel, she jumps from couple to couple without giving any real deapth to any character or situation. Ihad trouble remembering who was who. By the time I remembered who the particular couple in a chapter were and what their specific background or issue was, the chapter was half finished. Each couple could have been the central characters of a single novel. Their problem or issue was interesting and, while I do wonder what will happen to Seth and Justine now that their restaurant burned down, to Marrianne and Jon with her difficult pregnancy and their financial problems, as well as Grace and Olivia and the other women and their husbands, none of the couples have become real enough to me (I don't know them well enough) for me to commit to reading the next novel to try to find the answers to my questions.
I am always very satisfied with Debbie Macombers books, and this is no exception. As always it has been a joy visiting old friends and being introduced to new ones. This book basically revolves around Corrie and Roy Mc Affee, the recidents of 50 Harbor Street. Someone has started sending them post cards with little messages attached, not necessarily threatening messages, but it's still scary enough to keep them on their toes.
There's also the ongoing saga involving Grace and Cliff. They hit a snag in their relationship in the last book, and now they are trying to rectify that whole situation and finds their way back to each other again, but can they actually do it? Or will they decide to just give up and go their separate ways?
My heart went out to Maryellen and Jon. It's like these two just can't catch a break. Hopefully in the next book things will finally start looking up for these two.
Allison and Anson are another young sweet couuple who find themselves in precarious situations. I truly believe Anson is innocent, but I know why he feels he has to leave. His life hasn't been a bowl of cherries, and yes...he made a big mistake once, but even then I don't think he had intended it for things to turn out like they did. At the end of this story we are left wondering who burnt down the restaurant, but I truly do not believe it was Anson.
There are a few other couples in this story like Jack & Olivia, Rachel & Nate, Cecilia & Ian, Roy & Corrie, Linnette & Cal, Gloria & Chad, Bob & Peggy, and last but not least...Justine & Seth.
I can't wait to read the next installment to find out what happens next.
Cliffhanger. Disappointing that this is not a complete story.
Several couples are featured in this story which makes it somewhat difficult to follow.
No desire to re-read this story. I am always interested in works by this author.
